Welcome to the New Zealand Weather Network

Welcome! The New Zealand Weather network has a focus on learning and developing  meteorology (weather) skills and experience, based on New Zealand's own varied weather conditions.

We're a learning hub, where everyone taking part is learning at their own level, and helping others - a true weather community. Explore new skills, deepen existing passions, and get lost in learning about the weather.

If you are interested in New Zealands weather join in the discussions, become a representative for your weather region, even make your personal weather station live on our site. Have a hunt around. What you find just might surprise and inspire you!

  • I've been having a few issues with my website uploads, and couldn't figure out what it was. It had been working, and then all of a sudden stopped.

I've been having a few issues with my website uploads, and couldn't figure out what it was. It had been working, and then all of a sudden stopped.

I added an output file on the cron job to log what was happening and got this:

    >> + rsync -aPe ssh -i /home/pi/.ssh/idpidata_rsa --include *.txt --include *.htm* --exclude * --exclude */ /home/pi/consolewdfiles/ XXXXXXX@XXXXX.XX.XX:/home/huttwea/public_html/pidata
    >> protocol version mismatch -- is your shell clean?
    >> (see the rsync man page for an explanation)
    >> rsync error: protocol incompatibility (code 2) at compat.c(178) [sender=3.1.3]

Some further hunting around lead me to run this line which captures the output of the ssh (shell) connection to the host:

    >> ssh XXXXXXX@XXXXX.XX.XX /bin/true > out.dat

When I looked at the out.dat file, it had the following message in it, which indicated what was causing the problem:

    >> Shell access is not enabled on your account!
    >> If you need shell access please contact support.

To fix it, I enabled shell acces on the account, and now all is good. ;-)
